Platinum/Palladium Printing

This workshop, suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners, will provide students the opportunity to print in the platinum/palladium process. Because of its ability to render a vast tonal range, impart depth and detail in shadows, and provide archival stability, platinum/palladium is the most esteemed of the alternative processes. Students will be introduced to the history of the process, view notable examples, and learn through demonstration and the making of prints.

Paper and chemistry will be provided by The Halide Project. 

* Please note that this workshop is open to those interested in working from either film or digital negatives. 

For those working in film, please bring long tonal range medium and large format negatives that are high in contrast. 

For those interested in working from digital negatives, you’ll be asked to provide four digital files in advance that will be made into negatives for class.  ( (A $30 fee for the four digital negatives will be an add-on at check out.)

Instructor bio: 

John Joyce has been working in the platinum/palladium process for over twenty-five years. His work is in the permanent collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the private collections of Pedro Slim (Mexico City) and artist Ann Hamilton. He is represented by The Print Center in Philadelphia.
