split filter printing

Instructed by Ian Maley

Thursday, January 23
6:00- 9:00pm EST

.As Ansel Adams once said, the negative is only the possibility for an image. This workshop will teach you how to use the split-grade printing technique to maximize your negatives' potential for high-quality, impactful prints. Split-grade printing allows for greater control over contrast, more tonal separation, and full use of the negative's expressive power and tonal range. In the workshop, participants will learn the foundation of split-grade technique and the use of different filters when dodging and burning.

Participants should know the basics of darkroom printing.

Level: Intermediate. All photographic styles and subjects are welcome.

Participants will bring negatives to work with. The Halide Project will provide paper.
