If you weren’t able to attend the opening reception for Experiments in Alchemy – or even if you were! – come to our virtual opening and hear the artists talk about their work. Each explores the materiality of analog photography and approaches image-making in a highly experimental manner, fusing the science of the medium and a spirit of serendipity.

The exhibition was conceived of at the 2023 Experimental Photo Festival ‘s horizontal portfolio reviews, where Halide’s co-founder and curator, Dale Rio, selected Lexy’s work for a future exhibition. She then invited Gül and Bridget, whose work not only resonated with Lexy’s but were also invited artists at EXP, to round out the show.

In the manner of providing a bridge between the local Philadelphia photography community and the global photo world, the exhibition is part of Philadelphia’s 20/20 Photo Festival. In this way, we connect The Halide Project, 20/20 Photo Festival, and the Experimental Photo Festival, serving - and merging – all of their communities.
